Single use items are a large burden in terms of waste output, procurement costs and overal emissions stacked up by the lab. Avoid single-use water bottles through ensuring that staff and students are required to bring reusable bottles, and that refill stations are clearly indicated.
In labs where personal food and drink are not allowed due to biochemical analysis, provide reusable bottles that are throughly cleaned inbetween users.
Doing away with single use plastic water bottles is a quick target to reduce waste streams coming out of the lab.
