The Impact:
Experimentation & knowledge sharing

Details
Research groups can amplify their impact by sharing not just their findings but also the sustainability considerations behind their experimental choices. By adding a sustainability statement to publications groups help normalising the inclusion of sustainability considerations in scientific communication and promotes sustainable experimental design.
Statements could include
- Qualitative or quantitative estimates of environmental impacts (e.g. energy use, reagent consumption, waste generated)
- Identification of particularly resource-intensive steps
- Description of optimisations already implemented
- Participation in SPARKHub certification
- Opportunities for reducing waste, water, energy or hazardous materials in future work
Documenting sustainability-relevant decisions (e.g., reuse of materials, reduced reagent volumes, low-impact alternatives) fosters transparency and reproducibility.
