Details

When lab members leave without a structured exit procedure, chemicals, samples, data and equipment responsibilities are often left behind. Establishing a clear exit protocol ensures that all materials are reviewed, transferred or disposed of appropriately, and that research data and responsibilities remain within the group. This improves safety, reduces waste, and preserves knowledge and resources.

Leaving can be a busy moment, but a constructive departure requires input of the relevant member of staff. Consider putting the onus partly on the departing members that if they do not facilitate sharing leftover samples and materials, then anything of theirs will not be kept if found.
