Ensure water baths have a cover. For instance, use plastic water bath balls for rotary evaporators to cover the open water. They prevent heat loss, evaporation (up to 90%), reduce oxygen input, reduce odors and levels of algae growth in the water. Furthermore avoid running the rotary evaporator overnight, unless required.
