Although the digitial side of a lab's experimental work may at first glance seem less resource intensive, plenty of research and evidence suggests that the computing itself and subsequent data storage, can have significant envrionmental impacts in regards to energy consumption and other resources required to run data storage facilities.

Along with implementing good data management practices, focusing on how that data is initially acquired and then subsequently stored, can allow you to reduce the experiments overall envrionmental impact.
For example, consider algorithms that could be improved or updated that have a lower energy demand or produce less redundant data. Or data storage protocols that avoid unnecessary data being stored for long periods, duplicates, or even where your data is stored.
