Many of the emissions produced by the facility are likely to be scope 3 emissions associated with purchasing goods and services. More environmentally friendly choices may cost more than there standard alternatives and so a protocol must assess these choices fairly and proportionately across suppliers. The protocols must intercept larger tenders at the early stages of development, so that there is sufficient time to include appropriate ES criteria. Ensure the scoring carries meaningful weight in decision making, and routinely review suppliers’ ongoing performance to confirm they continue to meet contractual targets.
