The Impact:
Reduction of research waste.

Details
In order to minimise the environmental impact of clinical trials, CTUs must, where possible, build environmental sustainability choices into trial design from the very outset. CTUs already play a role in ensuring that clinical trials are designed with rigourous protocols that maximise a trial's chance of success, thus reducing research waste, and in turn the environmental impact of redundant or unsuccessful trials. Furthermore, CTUs are optimally placed to assess where a trial's protocols can be adjusted to minimise its environmental impact, without harming the quality and validity of the trial, nor comprimising participant safety.
