The Impact:
Reduce CO2 use demands and waste gas output

Details

Refining CO2 usage during experiments not only aids sustainability by reducing the usage of the gas but also to improve data quality and reproducability . Due to potential adverse effects on fertility or lifespan linked to CO2 exposure in prolonged timeframes, or reported physiological changes after even short term exposure, by keeping its use to a minimum, there is reduced risk of these changes impacting your research and data.

Consider measures to refine your CO2 usage such as foot pedal controls, minimising the volumes used, and checking for leakages in any equipment.
Addtionally, ensure its use in protocols is absolutely vital or if other experimental interventions with a lower emissions output for usage could lead to the same result, such as cold anaesthesia for more basic anaestheic needs or experimental setups that may require no anaesthesia at all.
