Details

The use of of environmental impact assessment tools can help CTUs and the trialists they work with identify and mitigate environmental impact ares in a trial both at any stage of a trial, whether this is during the design phase, or after its conclusion. Whilst tools for the assessment of the wider environmental impact of clinical trials are still forthcoming, the Greener Trials carbon footprinting methodology allows a CTU to calculate the carbon footprint of a trial. CTUs may use this tool to begin the move toward low carbon trial design by identifying where carbon hotspots exist and exploring options for mitigation in future trials.

For Silver, this requires having tested the Greener Trials carbon footprinting methodology on at least one historic CTU trial, and be able to report on the carbon footprint of 25% of the CTU's ongoing trial portfolio.
