The Impact:
Reduce emissions and chemical waste for end-of-life methodologies

Details

To end fly lives, there are a variety of methodologies possible. Groups should target the most environmentally friendly method suitable for the lab and experiments and ensure materials are handled in a way to reduce waste and emissions.
Freezing is generally considered a sustainable option over other methodologies such as ethonol or detergent submersion or CO2 use, due to the minimisation of chemical or gas usage and waste.

Other than the actually euthanasia method, other factors should be considered such as
- Autoclaving protocols - high energy consumption, so only use where absolutely necessary
- Waste management - seperate waste such as plastics from organics
