The Impact:
Reduces overall acquisition times which leads to less energy usage as well as nitrogen gas consumption.

Details
Optimise the chromatographic method to balance short acquisition times with adequate separation. This looks different for gas and liquid chromatography.
Gas Chromatography:
- Narrower or shorter columns to decrease separation time
- Modify temperature ramping and gas flow rate to speed up separation
- Ensure injection volumes are only what is neccessary to reduce the amount of sample needed meaning analysis will be faster
- Consider a greener carrier gas
Liquid Chromatography:
- Suitable columns with narrower ID, shorter columns and smaller particles
- Optimised solvent gradients
- Optimised solvents and consider greener solvents
