Equipment, maintenance and energy

Category: Metal & Wood Workshop

The Impact:
Without active optimisation, equipment use can remain inefficient and resource-intensive. Systematic maintenance, repair, and improved use practices reduce energy demand, extend asset lifespan, and lower overall environmental impact.

Details

Workshops adopt whole-life approaches to equipment management, including repair, upgrade, and adaptation, redistribution and shared use of specialist equipment across spaces or departments where feasible.

Equipment replacement decisions take account of durability, repairability, embodied impact, and operational energy use, including consideration of when retaining legacy equipment is preferable and when replacement may provide overall environmental benefit.

Workshops collaborate with relevant teams to improve the efficiency and environmental performance of high-energy systems such as extraction and specialist machinery.
