Equipment, maintenance and energy

Category: Print & Dye Workshop

Level: Silver

Author: Hannah Ogahara, June Fish, Laura Baker

The Impact:
When equipment such as heat presses, exposure units, and washout systems is poorly maintained, incorrectly set up, or used inefficiently, processes may fail or require repetition, increasing energy, water, chemical, and material use. Inadequate ventilation can also increase exposure to harmful substances. Planned maintenance and effective use improve safety, efficiency, and process reliability.

Details

Workshops maintain equipment (e.g. heat presses, exposure units, washout booths, drying systems) through planned or routine maintenance and support efficient use.
Ventilation and extraction systems are maintained and used effectively to manage exposure to chemicals and airborne substances.
Staff and students are supported to reduce unnecessary running time, avoid repeated processing, and use equipment efficiently.
